The International Master Programme of Adapted Physical Activity (IMAPA) Print E-mail

The International Master Programme of Adapted Physical Activity (IMAPA) is a 2 year Master programme in partnership between KU Leuven (Belgium), Palacký University Olomouc (Czech Republic) and a number of associate partner institutions, combining the expertise of more than 20 universities and organizations throughout Europe and the world. The programme offers students state-of-the-art research and teaching methodology in adapted physical activity (APA) and the social, pedagogical, and technical aspects of physical activity adapted to the needs of persons with a disability. IMAPA is a flexible programme, allowing students to custom design the content of their curriculum depending on the competences they wish to acquire. Students can follow the entire programme as KU Leuven students, or fit a number of selected courses within their home university programme, while remaining registered at their home university. IMAPA graduates will have the competences to work with persons with an impairment in career domains such as education, coaching, personal training, physical therapy, occupational therapy, medicine or other health care professions. The program also allows pursuing a research career by acquiring knowledge and expertise in adapted physical activity and a kinesiology related scientific discipline.
The minimum requirement for applying in the Master Course is a possession of a Bachelor Diploma in Physical Education and Kinesiology, in Rehabilitation Sciences and Physiotherapy, Physical Education, in Physiotherapy, in Sport Sciences, in Movement Sciences, in Motor Rehabilitation or a Master degree in the above mentioned study fields.
As the official language of the Master program is English, students are expected to be sufficiently conversant in English (understanding, speaking, reading and writing), to understand and discuss scientific literature. The level of English has to be proven by a language certificate (Proficiency, TOEFL, Pitman, etc.). Almost every English proficiency test is OK for us, but when it comes to scholarship applications, we make up a ranking based on several variables. One of them is English, and the TOEFL certificate gets the highest score next to native English speaking.

Please, visit the following links for more detailed information regarding the program and the course content and English requirements:

9conference2016 At the final plenary of the 8th European conference on Deaflindness in Lille 2013, the main conclusion was that the two “sides of deafblindness” need to interact and learn more of each other.
