Erasmus Mundus Master in Adapted Physical Activity Print E-mail

Erasmus MundusDear colleagues,

The application procedure for EMMAPA scholarships has opened from 1 November 2013, and will be open until 31 January 2014. Can you please forward the below written information mail and the attachments to all potential good candidate students. I included the EMMAPA information folder, and an information document about travelling to and living in Leuven. We are hoping to attract at least 20 students for the 2014-2016 cohort, which is also the last cohort that will be recruited within this agreement with the European Commission, so we want to promote the EMMAPA program to as many students worldwide as possible. I therefore want to ask you to help us promote the program.

Please note that it is also possible for students to follow EMMAPA courses through student mobilities from bilateral agreements (unfortunately only for European partner universities). As all EMMAPA courses have an ECTS label, they can be fitted within existing curricula from your universities, and students can study in Leuven for one semester or an entire academic year. If you need more information about this, please let me know.

Dear student,

The Erasmus Mundus Master in Adapted Physical Activity is a 2 year Master's program in partnership between the KU Leuven (KUL, Belgium, the University of Limerick (UL; Ireland), the University of Olomouc (UP; Czech Republic), the Norwegian school of Sport Sciences (NSSS; Oslo, Norway), the University of Virginia (USA), Stellenbosch University (South Africa), the University of Queensland (Brisbane, Australia), this is called the EMMAPA Consortium, and a number of associate partners across the world. The program aims at educating students in both a professional orientation ( students can choose between education, management or active lifestyle), and a disciplinary specialization (students choose between biomechanics & exercise physiology, applied pedagogy & sociocultural studies, and motor control – learning & psychology).

There are four mobility models available within the Erasmus Mundus Master in Adapted Physical Activity program. The first academic year takes place at KUL, in the second year the students will follow a mandatory mobility period in one of the European consortium universities choosing between 4 mobility models. The choice of the mobility schemes will be dictated by both the interests and specialization areas of the students as well as availability within each scheme (usually an equal division of positions among partners).

In principle, the minimum requirement for applying in the Master Course is a possession of a Bachelor Diploma in Physical Education, Physiotherapy Sport/Movement sciences, and Kinesiology. As the official language of the Master program is English, students are expected to be sufficiently conversant in English (understanding, speaking, reading and writing), to understand and discuss scientific literature. The level of English has to be proven by a language certificate (Proficiency, TOEFL, Pitman, etc.). Almost every English proficiency test is OK for us, but when it comes to scholarship applications, we make up a ranking based on several variables. One of them is English, and the TOEFL certificate gets the highest score next to native English speaking.

The total number of students we can accept is 40 - about 15 non-European and 25 European students. There is a strict selection procedure done by the EMMAPA Consortium Board for choosing the best students for the scholarships - both from European and non-European countries. The selection is done according to criteria, which have been set and agreed by each representative of the Partnership Universities. Examinations results and diploma, APA course and field experience, research methodological background, project proposal, motivation letters and letters of recommendation will form part of the admission process. In general the Consortium is assessing students individually on the basis of their previous academic record. Applications without an official certificate of English proficiency (e.g., TOEFL or IELTS) will not be considered (not applicable for the native English-speakers)
