Webinar Series (Australian sport commission - Sports CONNECT) Print E-mail

www The Sports CONNECT Webinar series is all about helping you provide more opportunities for people with disability to participate in sport and active recreation. It is a part of the Australian Sports Commission's national Sports CONNECT initiative.

Sports CONNECT works across the sports sector, providing support to a wide range of sports at national, state and local level. The basic aim of Sports CONNECT is to connect sports organisations and disability sector organisations to create sustainable opportunities for participation in sport and active recreation.

Do you want to help more people with disability get into sport and active recreation?

We all know that sport and active recreation has great benefits for people with disability. Research shows that two of the main benefits of regular participation are:

  • Being connected to the community, and
  • Increased confidence and self esteem.

Sometimes making sure that there are opportunities for people with a disability can be a challenge - for all sorts of reasons. The Sports CONNECT Webinar series will help you create these opportunities, regardless of your current situation. It will help you plan and deliver quality opportunities that improve the quality of life for people with disabilities. It will help you solve the challenges you face in offering these opportunities.

So what exactly is a Webinar?

A Webinar is simply an online presentation. The presentation happens live over the Internet and can involve presenters from anywhere in the world. You basically view another persons computer screen and listen to their voice. It's not only a one-way form of communication though because, as an attendee to a Webinar you can ask questions through a live 'chat' function and take part in polls on specific topics. You do not need any complicated software and it's free. A Webinar gives you a way to learn about how others go about including people with disability, without leaving your office or home!

How do I get involved with the Webinar series?

Simply fill in the expression of interest form by clicking the link above. It is important to ensure you have listed a correct and valid email address. You will then receive an email response and will be sent invitations to attend upcoming webinars. You under no obligation to attend all webinars - simply attend when you can.

When are the Webinars?

The Sports CONNECT Webinars happen on the first Thursday of every month, starting at 1:00pm (AEST) on 7th Ocotber 2010. Any changes to the regular schedule you'll be notified in advance. Webinars will generally last approximately 30-45 minutes and will be scheduled three months in advance - just so that you know what to expect and can plan to attend the ones that interest you.

What if I miss a Webinar?

Don't worry, if you miss a Webinar that interests you, you can always view it afterwards by accessing the Webinar Archive. Also, the Webinars are stand-alone so if you miss a topic it doesn't matter, just join in the next one.
